Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a meaningful contract opportunity as an ASL Language Facilitator in a vibrant, diverse educational environment. This full-time position, available immediately through June 11th, 2027, offers 32.5 hours per week and focuses on 1:1 support for a student within an enriching school community near Danbury, CT. Flexibility in placement will be discussed during a virtual interview with the Director and Teacher of the Deaf, ensuring your unique skills and background align for best student fit.
Key Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required. Previous experience within school settings strongly preferred, especially providing support to children or young learners. RID and/or EIPA certification(s) are highly valued; interpreters working toward certification are welcome—professional support for continuing education and certification reimbursement is available. Commitment to fostering understanding for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing by facilitating comprehension and ASL vocabulary development. Ability to work both as a 1:1 interpreter and tutor, adapting strategies for individual student needs. A genuine passion for supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
Responsibilities:
Support 1:1 with a preschool student or another student based on best match with your expertise. Tutor, interpret, and clarify classroom content, ensuring access to curriculum and fostering language growth in ASL. Collaborate with teachers, specialists, and families to promote the student's academic and social development. Actively contribute to a culturally rich and inclusive educational experience.
