QUALIFICATIONS
Degree in Deaf Education (Master's Degree preferred). Knowledge of early childhood development, language acquisition, and evidence-based instructional practices for deaf and hard of hearing children birth to age five. Understanding of diverse communication modalities including ASL, spoken language development, auditory skill development, visual communication strategies, culturally responsive practices, and family-centered intervention approaches. Eligible for State of Delaware Certification. Successful completion of the State of Delaware Pre-Professional Skills test (only for those candidates not already certificated in Delaware & may be met after position has been offered). Criminal background check and drug screening required prior to employment.
PREFERENCES
Experience providing family-centered early intervention services using a coaching model to support caregiver capacity-building and child development in natural environments preferred. Training and/or experience in one or more of the following areas: ASL, Spoken Language, auditory development, early literacy, Deaf culture, family coaching, or early intervention. Ability to support families in developing communication-rich environments aligned with the child's communication access and family priorities. Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams including teachers of the deaf, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and community agencies. Flexibility in service delivery models and ability to adapt instruction to meet individual child and family needs. Awareness of developmental milestones in cognition, language, social-emotional development, motor skills, self-help skills, and play/socialization in young children. Essential Responsibilities and Duties of the
Job:
Plan and implement individualized lessons and family coaching sessions within home and community environments to support communication, language, literacy, and developmental growth. Support families in fostering communication and language development using approaches appropriate to the child's communication access and family preferences, including ASL, spoken language development, auditory skill-building, and multimodal communication strategies. Direct, monitor, document, and report child progress toward
IFSP/IEP
goals and outcomes. Maintain effective communication with families, colleagues, and outside agencies regarding child development and progress. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members including teachers of the deaf, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, psychologists, occupational therapists, and other service providers to ensure high-quality coordinated services. Assess child performance using formal and informal measures including standardized assessments, observational data, work samples, and developmental progress monitoring tools. Provide families with resources, strategies, and support to promote language-rich interactions and informed decision-making. Participate in required school, instructional, and professional meetings. Engage in ongoing professional learning related to deaf education, language acquisition, communication modalities, family-centered practices, and early childhood intervention.
