Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact by supporting students' communication needs as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic educational environment. As a contracted Sign Language Interpreter, you'll empower students and help bridge communication barriers within classrooms and school activities. Bring your expertise in American Sign Language to foster an inclusive, accessible learning atmosphere.
Key Qualifications:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), with demonstrated fluency in receptive and expressive skills Previous experience interpreting in educational or youth-focused settings is highly preferred Ability to maintain confidentiality and uphold professional boundaries Strong interpersonal skills and sensitivity to cultural and linguistic diversity Certification as an Educational Interpreter or equivalent (RID/NIC or EIPA strongly desired) Skilled at quick thinking, adapting interpreting styles, and managing multiple priorities
Main Responsibilities:
Provide interpreting services for students, staff, and parents during classroom instruction, assemblies, and school-related events Collaborate closely with teachers and support staff to facilitate effective communication, ensuring clear access to information Adapt signing to match the communication mode and learning preferences of the student(s) served Assist in creating a positive, respectful classroom environment that supports inclusion and participation Maintain accurate records of services, assignments, and student progress as required Remain up-to-date with best practices in educational interpreting and participate in ongoing professional development
