Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in a school environment by providing sign language interpretation for a high school student in an adaptive classroom setting. This opportunity is for a full academic year, supporting a student who uses a wheelchair and requires comprehensive interpreting services. The position is a contract role, working onsite at a dedicated local school, directly supporting educational access under parental preference guidelines.
Required Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language and prior experience as a sign language interpreter in a school setting EIPA score of 3.5 or above (candidates with a lower score may be considered with further discussion) Demonstrated ability to adapt communication styles for students with varying needs Experience supporting students in special education and/or adaptive classroom environments is strongly preferred Commitment to providing onsite services (virtual work is not an option) Strong professionalism, communication, and collaboration skills
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality sign language interpretation for a high school student in an adaptive classroom throughout the school day Facilitate communication between student, teachers, service providers, and peers Provide compensatory services where appropriate, ensuring the student's full participation and access to the curriculum Collaborate with special education faculty and support staff to tailor services to individual needs Uphold confidentiality laws and best practices in all settings This role offers the chance to grow your interpreting skills in a dynamic educational environment while making a direct impact on a student's success.
