Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Make a difference every day by supporting students and educators with your expertise in sign language interpretation. This contract opportunity offers a chance to work closely with a high school student in an adaptive classroom setting, providing crucial communication support and helping ensure inclusive access to education. Your skills will empower a student who uses a wheelchair and requires comprehensive services on-site, making you an essential part of their academic progress. This assignment runs from early August through late May, aligning conveniently with the school calendar and allowing for meaningful, consistent engagement.
Preferred Experience and Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with a focus on educational settings EIPA score of 3.5 or above (if lower, further discussion required) Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter, especially within schools or special education environments Ability to collaborate effectively with special education teachers and adaptive classroom teams Sensitivity and adaptability to the needs of students with physical or developmental challenges
Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and communications for a high school student in an adaptive classroom Provide comprehensive communication services as outlined in the student's support plan Work on-site (no virtual services, per family's request) Coordinate with educators, therapists, and staff to ensure consistent student support throughout the school day Maintain professional and ethical standards of interpreting within a school setting
