Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference each day as a Sign Language Interpreter in an elementary school setting, supporting young learners from EC to 3rd grade. This rewarding contract role places you at the heart of education, where you will facilitate communication and access for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students across a connected campus. Your expertise will enable students to interact with peers, teachers, and related service providers, helping foster both academic growth and social development. The scheduling allows you to experience both mainstream classrooms and self-contained DHH settings, as well as small group support, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with a supportive team of educators while adapting your interpreting skills to diverse situations.
Qualifications & Experience:
National or state certification in Sign Language Interpretation (e.g., EIPA, RID, or Illinois credentials) Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and English Experience interpreting in educational settings, preferably with young children Ability to adapt communication style to varied learning environments and needs Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with educators, students, and service providers Commitment to professional standards of confidentiality and ethics
Role Responsibilities:
Deliver interpreting services in mainstream classes, DHH self-contained rooms, and during small group instruction Support accessible learning in various educational and social settings Work closely with classroom teachers and specialists to best meet student needs Accurately and impartially interpret spoken language and signed communication Build a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere that encourages student participation and engagement Explore a position where each interaction helps shape a child's educational journey.
