Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Experience an exciting opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting elementary students in a dynamic school environment near Oak Forest, IL. In this contract position, you'll work across Early Childhood to 3rd grade, providing vital access and communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing (DHH) students in both mainstream and DHH self-contained settings. This role offers meaningful engagement, variety, and a chance to make a difference within connected campus buildings.
Qualifications & Preferred Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with interpreting in educational environments. Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter (SLI), especially in school-based or pediatric settings. Knowledge of Deaf culture and sensitivity to the needs of DHH students. Ability to adapt interpreting styles for different age groups and situations. State certification or credentials as required for educational interpreting (or eligibility to obtain). Positive attitude, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide interpreting services for students from Early Childhood through 3rd grade during classes, activities, and group sessions. Support communication between students, teachers, related service providers, and peers in both mainstream and self-contained settings. Facilitate access to the curriculum and social interactions, adapting techniques as needed to meet student abilities. Partner with educational staff to ensure an inclusive classroom environment. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
