Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into an impactful role as a Sign Language Interpreter in a welcoming educational setting. In this full-time contract opportunity, you will support a 4th grade student who is newly learning American Sign Language. This position covers the assignment period from ASAP through May 21, 2027, with the possibility for extended school year work. Your work hours will align with standard school days—Monday through Friday, 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.—allowing the chance to work closely within a supportive school environment.
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter through the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing. Strong command of American Sign Language. Previous experience in educational settings preferred. Patience, adaptability, and a passion for helping new ASL learners. Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Role Responsibilities:
Deliver clear and accurate interpretation between spoken English and American Sign Language for a 4th grade student. Facilitate communication and inclusion within classroom lessons and school activities. Collaborate effectively with educators and related service providers to meet both academic and social needs. Adjust interpretation style as needed to accommodate growth in the student's ASL proficiency. Observe and document student progress, participating in team meetings as appropriate.
