Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. Step into a meaningful contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter in the Kansas City, KS area and support the educational journey of Deaf and Hard of Hearing (D/HH) students. This assignment runs from August 2026 through May 2027, offering 37.5 hours per week working closely with students at JFK Elementary. Use your American Sign Language (ASL) skills to facilitate communication in a school setting, helping bridge the gap between D/HH individuals and their hearing peers, staff, and community members. You'll play a vital part in supporting academic participation and fostering an inclusive environment where every student's voice is understood and respected.
Ideal candidates possess:
Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Valid state licensure, with documentation and a current resume ready for review Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in educational settings Strong knowledge of ethical standards for interpreting, with a commitment to confidentiality The ability to adapt communication style to the needs of students grades K-12 A collaborative mindset and ability to work effectively with students, educators, and families Key responsibilities include: Translating spoken English into ASL and vice versa in classroom and school settings Facilitating clear communication between D/HH students and their teachers or classmates Maintaining strict confidentiality and professional standards in all assignments Supporting student learning, inclusion, and engagement in daily school activities This is an excellent opportunity to make a significant impact in students' lives while working on a supportive, mission-driven team.
