Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a role where your skills as a Sign Language Interpreter make a daily impact in educational settings near Olathe, KS. This contract opportunity spans the school year, from August 3, 2026, through May 21, 2027, offering a steady schedule of 37.5 hours per week. You'll facilitate clear, accessible communication for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students—specifically, supporting two students at JFK Elementary—helping bridge the gap between the D/HH community and their peers, teachers, and school staff.
Key Qualifications:
Current licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English Previous experience interpreting within schools, educational programs, or similar environments preferred A professional approach to maintaining strict confidentiality and ethical interpretation standards Ability to provide a recent resume and documentation of licensure upon request
Primary Responsibilities:
Translate spoken English to ASL and ASL to English in K-12 school environments Facilitate group or one-on-one conversations between D/HH students and hearing individuals Support educational access during classroom activities and school events Adapt communication style to serve each student's needs, collaborating closely with educators and staff Maintain accurate and impartial communication as required in educational settings This position allows you to foster inclusive learning—ensuring every student has the tools to succeed.
