Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Embark on a meaningful opportunity supporting a young student's learning journey as a Sign Language Interpreter. In this rewarding, full-time contract position, you'll play a key role in empowering a 4th grader who is newly learning American Sign Language (ASL), helping to create an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. This assignment runs from now through May 21, 2027, with a potential extension for the Extended School Year (ESY). You'll work school-day hours, Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m., providing direct interpreting services within the educational setting. Your expertise will bridge communication between the student, teachers, and peers, fostering both academic success and social connection. Qualifications Valid licensure from the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing Proficiency in American Sign Language Previous experience in educational interpreting, ideally at the elementary school level Strong interpersonal and communication skills A passion for helping students thrive and adapt in new learning environments Key Responsibilities Interpret classroom instructions, discussions, and activities using ASL Assist teachers in facilitating clear communication for all classroom activities Support the student's language development and cultural access in the school community Collaborate with education staff to implement best practices for inclusivity Maintain professionalism and confidentiality at all times Step into a role that shapes a child's academic journey and opens new possibilities.
