Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding opportunity supporting students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in an educational setting. In this contract role, you'll work closely with two elementary school students to bridge communication between Deaf or Hard of Hearing (D/HH) individuals and their hearing peers and educators. Your expertise in American Sign Language (ASL) facilitates access and inclusion, creating a supportive environment for learning and social participation.
Key Qualifications:
Valid Sign Language Interpreter licensure required Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience interpreting in school, educational, or community contexts preferred Thorough understanding of interpreter code of ethics and maintaining confidentiality Ability to work collaboratively with students, educators, and families Professional, punctual, and responsive to student needs Resume must be available at time of presentation
Position Details:
Contract assignment spanning the academic year from August 2026 to May 2027
Location:
Kansas City, KS area, supporting students at the elementary level 37.5 hours per week, providing consistent in-person interpreting services Facilitate clear, accurate communication between D/HH students and hearing individuals Translate spoken English to ASL and ASL to English across classroom activities and interactions Uphold strict confidentiality and adhere to professional standards at all times Support student participation in both academic and extracurricular settings This position is perfect for interpreters passionate about making a meaningful impact in the education field.
