Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A unique opportunity awaits for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to support a young learner in a school-based setting near Shawnee, KS. This full-time contract role will run through the end of the school year on 5/21/27, with the potential for work during the Extended School Year (ESY). You'll work directly with a 4th-grade student who is a new ASL learner, helping to bridge communication and foster an inclusive educational environment.
Key Qualifications:
Licensed with the Kansas Commission on Deaf/Hard of Hearing (KCDHH) Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience in a school or educational setting preferred Patience, adaptability, and excellent communication skills Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and ethics in all situations
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide direct ASL interpretation between the student, teachers, and classmates during classroom instruction, activities, and events Adapt interpretation to meet the needs of a student new to ASL, ensuring understanding and engagement Collaborate with educators and support staff to help develop strategies that further language acquisition and academic progress Support the student in both academic and social settings throughout the school day Maintain accurate records of services as required by the school This position follows a consistent school schedule, working Monday through Friday from 7:45 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. You'll make a meaningful difference in a student's educational journey, working in a setting where commitment and compassion are valued.
