In this essential role, you will provide high‑quality interpretation that ensures full participation in academic instruction, classroom dialogue, and school activities. Your linguistic expertise and commitment to inclusion will directly support student success and strengthen communication across the educational community. Key Responsibilities Deliver accurate, fluent, and culturally competent interpretation between spoken English and ASL during classroom instruction, discussions, meetings, and extracurricular activities. Facilitate communication among students, teachers, administrators, and school personnel to ensure full access to educational content and social interaction. Interpret instructional materials and assessments into ASL, supporting students' comprehension and engagement with curriculum content. Collaborate with educators to understand lesson objectives, academic terminology, and instructional strategies to ensure message equivalency across languages and cultural contexts. Maintain strict confidentiality and uphold professional ethics , including adherence to interpreting standards and educational policies. Demonstrate cultural and linguistic competency , adapting interpretation style to meet diverse student needs and communication preferences. Engage in ongoing professional development to remain current with best practices in ASL interpreting, linguistics, Deaf culture, and educational methodologies. Minimum Qualifications Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken/written English Ability to provide accurate, ethical, and culturally responsive interpretation in educational environments Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, staff, and students while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to adapt to diverse linguistic and cultural needs Reliability, punctuality, and the ability to manage the fast‑paced demands of classroom settings Preferred Qualifications EIPA score of 4.5 or higher , or other recognized interpreting credentials Prior experience interpreting for Deaf or hard‑of‑hearing students in K-12 or postsecondary educational settings Demonstrated ability to collaborate with educators to prepare for lessons, understand instructional goals, and ensure accurate message delivery Training or experience in Deaf culture , multicultural competency, or trauma‑informed educational practices Commitment to ongoing professional development in interpreting, pedagogy, and accessibilit Join us in creating an inclusive educational environment where language barriers are removed, enabling every student to thrive!
