The Interpreter plays a vital role in KDC's Early Intervention Program by bridging communication between families and our team of specialists. This position provides accurate verbal, sign language, and written interpretation and translation to ensure families can fully access the services, resources, and support they need to help their children grow and thrive. Working in a collaborative, family-centered environment, the Interpreter makes an immediate and meaningful impact on children and families.
Schedule:
Monday - Friday, 8 am - 4 pm
Hours :
Up to 10 hours a week / as needed based on family needs
What You'll Do:
Provide real-time interpretation during home visits, center-based sessions, telehealth appointments, and group meetings. Translate written communications, including parent letters, newsletters, reports, Individualized Family Service Plans (IFSPs), and other program documents. Support Early Intervention Specialists by ensuring clear, culturally responsive communication with families. Maintain professional and ethical boundaries while fostering respectful interactions with families, children, and team members. Collaborate with team members to provide high-quality, family-centered services. Maintain confidentiality and comply with KDC policies, DPH regulations, and program standards. Perform other duties related to service delivery as assigned.
Qualifications Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED. Bilingual fluency in English and one of the following: American Sign Language (ASL), Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or Haitian Creole. Ability to accurately translate and interpret both verbally and in writing (letters, reports, IFSPs, emails, etc.). Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity, and commitment to empowering families. Flexibility in scheduling, including some evenings. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation systems. Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and willingness to travel extensively within the community. CPR/First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within designated timeframe).
Preferred Qualifications:
Formal training or certification in interpretation/translation. Previous experience providing interpretation in educational, healthcare, or social service settings. Familiarity with Early Intervention or early childhood development services. Strong organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. Share job details to
