ASL / Sign Language Interpreter - Full-time/W2 Sign Language Interpreter (ASL) | Leonardtown, MD | Immediate Need!

We are seeking a qualified and dependable American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreter to support students in a school-based setting in Leonardtown, MD.Position Details
  • Location:
    Leonardtown, MD
  • Schedule:
    Full-Time, On-Site (School Hours)
  • Employment Type:
    W-2 with benefits
  • Setting:
    School Based
  • Pay:
    $32-36 per hour, based on experience
Certification:
RID/NIC certification preferred.

          ResponsibilitiesSign Language InterpreterWe are seeking a skilled and professional Sign Language Interpreter to join our team. In this role, you will bridge the communication gap, ensuring that Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals have full access to information across a variety of settings—from collaborative office meetings to high-stakes formal presentations.

          The ideal candidate is not just a translator, but a dedicated communicator who possesses the cultural competency and technical proficiency to convey both the literal meaning and the intended tone of every conversation.

          Key Responsibilities
          • Real-Time Interpretation:
            Accurately translate spoken dialogue into Sign Language (ASL or preferred modality) and vice versa, ensuring seamless communication between all parties.
          • Contextual Preparation:
            Conduct thorough research on industry-specific terminology or technical subject matter prior to assignments to ensure accuracy in specialized fields (e.g., legal, medical, or corporate).
          • Adaptable Service Delivery:
            Provide interpretation in diverse environments, including in-person meetings, large-scale public events, and via remote Video Remote Interpreting (VRI) platforms.
          • Information Retention:
            Utilize strong active listening and short-term memory skills to interpret lengthy or complex segments of speech without losing critical nuances.
          • Ethical Standards:
            Maintain strict confidentiality and ad to the Professional Code of Conduct for interpreters. Qualifications
          • High School Diploma or GED
          • Associates Degree OR three (3) years of experience.
          • National certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf is preferred
          • Commitment to ongoing continuing education and professional development
          • Ability to accurately interpret spoken content, requiring strong attention to detail and retention A sign language interpreter converts spoken language into sign language.
          An interpreter may work for schools, hospitals or government agencies. Strong skills in both English and sign language are needed for a career as an interpreter, and degree programs in American Sign Language (ASL) and sign language interpreting are available. Fields like communications or English are also good choices. Interpreters typically need a bachelor's degree, though some associate-level programs are also offered. Professional certification is available, though voluntary.
