Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Providing American Sign Language interpretation and instruction in an educational setting offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a student's life. This role involves serving as a Sign Language Interpreter and Teacher of American Sign Language for a first-grade student who has experienced severe language deprivation. The position is a full-time contract role, supporting both the current school year (CSY) and the next school year (NSY) with a 37.5-hour workweek.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality sign language interpreting services in the classroom to facilitate communication. Provide American Sign Language instruction tailored to the student's unique needs for language development. Collaborate closely with educators, therapists, and family members to create an effective learning environment. Monitor the student's progress and adapt instructional approaches accordingly. Support the student's social and academic growth by fostering effective communication.
Qualifications:
Proficient in American Sign Language with a minimum of 4.0 EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score preferred. Candidates with lower EIPA scores are encouraged to apply; supervision and support for obtaining temp certification are available. Experience working with children who have language deprivation or delayed language acquisition is highly desirable. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with school staff and family. Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment that supports the student's overall development.

This role is based in Kingsley, Michigan, providing services in a school setting.
