Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. An engaging opportunity is available for a full-time Sign Language Interpreter to support a diverse school community in Lawrence, MI. This contract position begins immediately and extends through June 5th, 2026, offering 35 hours per week. The role primarily focuses on secondary education students with severe disabilities, though the age group can be matched to your preferences.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate effective communication between students with hearing impairments and educational staff. Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during classroom instruction and school activities. Support students with severe disabilities, adapting interpreting techniques as needed. Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure accessible learning environments. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines.
Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong interpreting skills. Experience working with students with severe disabilities preferred. Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Prior experience in educational settings is highly valued. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
