Job Description
Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract A full-time Sign Language Interpreter with expertise in American Sign Language is needed to support a first-grade student in Suttons Bay, MI. This contract position involves working 37.5 hours per week during both the current and upcoming school years (CSY & NSY). The ideal candidate will have a strong background in sign language interpreting within educational settings and the capability to support a young learner with significant language deprivation.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide full-time sign language interpretation services for a first-grade student who requires specialized communication support. Facilitate effective communication between the student, teachers, and peers to foster an inclusive learning environment. Collaborate closely with educators and support staff to meet the student's educational and communication needs. Utilize American Sign Language (ASL) fluency to enhance the student's language acquisition and participation in classroom activities. Maintain accurate records of communication interventions and progress. Support related instructional and social interactions throughout the school day.Qualifications and Experience:
American Sign Language expertise with a minimum EIPA score of 4.0 preferred. Candidates with a lower EIPA score may be considered, with temporary certification arranged under supervision. Prior experience working with children, especially those with language deprivation or special communication needs. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, adaptable to student-specific requirements. Ability to commit full-time hours across the school year calendar.Location:
