Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract This opportunity involves providing full-time American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation services in a school setting located in Traverse City, MI. The role supports a first-grade student who has experienced significant language deprivation and requires specialized communication assistance. The position is available for both the current school year (CSY) and the next school year (NSY), with a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week on a contract basis.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver high-quality ASL interpretation services to facilitate effective communication for a first-grade student. Collaborate closely with educators and support staff to ensure the student's language development needs are met. Utilize expertise to adapt communication strategies tailored to the student's unique requirements. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions. Support the student's inclusion in classroom activities through effective interpretation.
Desired Qualifications:
American Sign Language Interpreter certification with a minimum EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 4.0. Candidates with a lower score may be considered temporarily under supervision, with certification support provided. Experience working with students who have language deprivation or similar communication challenges is highly preferred. Strong knowledge of ASL and proficiency in educational settings. Ability to work full-time hours during both the current and upcoming school years. Excellent interpersonal skills and adaptability to meet the evolving needs of the student.
