Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into an impactful role supporting the academic journey of a first-grade student as a full-time Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity offers the rewarding experience of working directly in an educational setting, making a real difference in a child's life every day. As a dedicated communication partner, you will provide direct interpretation for a first-grade student, assisting them throughout their school activities. You'll collaborate closely with teaching staff, ensuring the student has full access to classroom instruction, peer interactions, and school events. Your presence will help create a more inclusive educational environment and foster the student's confidence and growth.
Qualifications & Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated fluency. Relevant credentials or certification as a Sign Language Interpreter. Previous experience in a school environment, especially working 1:1 with young learners, is highly valued. Ability to adapt interpretation methods to suit a first-grade student's needs. Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset. Strong sense of confidentiality and professionalism in all interactions.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide 1:1 sign language interpretation for a first-grade student from 8:30am-3:30pm, Monday through Friday (35 hours per week). Support classroom learning, social interactions, and extracurricular participation. Work collaboratively with educators and service providers to adapt materials as necessary. Encourage the student's independence and self-advocacy skills. Maintain accurate records related to interpreting services and student progress.
