Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Are you passionate about supporting students with hearing impairments and facilitating a rich educational experience? A contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter to work in a dynamic school environment near Albemarle, NC. In this role, you'll play a key part in helping students access curriculum and fully engage in academic and social aspects of school life.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and knowledge of Deaf culture. Experience interpreting in educational or school settings preferred. Strong English communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families. Completion of interpreter training program or relevant certification (e.g., EIPA, RID). Patience, adaptability, and a true commitment to student success.
Primary Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into ASL, and vice versa, during classroom instruction, school activities, and meetings. Support students' access to academic content, social interactions, and extracurricular participation. Work closely with educators to prepare for lessons and adjust to students' individual needs. Maintain confidentiality and comply with school policies and ethical standards. Provide feedback to educational staff on student progress and communication strategies. Assist in setting up technology and resources needed for interpreting services.
