Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. A contract opportunity is available for a skilled Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) to support a 4th-grade student in a school setting. This position will begin on January 5th and continue through the end of the school year (EOSY) in Mount Airy, NC. The role involves providing one-on-one American Sign Language interpretation for the student, facilitating effective communication and learning within the classroom environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one sign language interpretation for a 4th-grade student in an educational setting. Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers to support academic and social inclusion. Collaborate with the teaching team to ensure accessibility of instructional materials and classroom activities. Maintain confidentiality and adhere to professional standards and ethical guidelines for interpreters. Assist in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment for the student.
Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with experience in educational settings. Prior experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter or ASL teacher, preferably with elementary school students. Ability to work effectively one-on-one with students requiring sign language support. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Commitment to fostering an inclusive environment promoting student success.

This contract position is based in Mount Airy, North Carolina, and requires availability throughout the school year, starting January 5th.
