Job Description

Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Applicants who do not meet these qualifications will not be considered. An opportunity is available for a full-time Sign Language Interpreter to support a kindergarten student in New Bern, NC. This contract position offers the chance to work 1:1 with a young learner, providing essential communication assistance that fosters educational success and inclusion.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver interpretation services from spoken language to sign language and vice versa in a one-on-one educational setting. Facilitate effective communication between the student and educators, ensuring accessibility and understanding. Collaborate with teachers and support staff to create an inclusive classroom environment. Maintain confidentiality and uphold professional standards in accordance with school policies. Utilize EIPA-certified skills to support the student's language development and participation in classroom activities.
Qualifications and Experience:
Valid EIPA certification demonstrating proficiency in sign language interpretation. Experience in educational settings preferred, particularly working with young children. Ability to work effectively with kindergarten-level students, adapting communication methods as necessary. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Commitment to supporting the needs of students with hearing impairments.
Location and Schedule:
Based in New Bern, North Carolina. Full-time hours.
Contract duration:
Immediate start through May 28, 2026.
