Job Description

Summary of Work Facilitate sign language communication between deaf and hearing consumers in an educational environment that includes academic and after-school activities such as classrooms, field trips, assemblies, counseling sessions, meeting and extracurricular activities. Sign for deaf consumer direct and overheard conversations, through the use of sign language and spoken English and knowledge about accessibility; convey the content and spirit of the speaker. Act as advocate for deaf students who may not be able to advocate for themselves. Support services for deaf consumers may include interpreters, note-takers, and closed captioned services and other assistive listening devices. Provide deaf students with assistance, as needed, with assignments and/or homework. Assist teachers requesting and/or requiring aid services (in the classroom) for students who are deaf. Use state cars to transport students to/from classes or after school activities and provide supervision inside vehicle and from vehicle to activity as needed.
