Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract assignment as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting young learners in an elementary setting. This on-site role runs from August to May, offering both full-day and afternoon-only options to suit your schedule. Collaborate closely with educators and students, ensuring seamless communication access throughout the school day. What you'll bring: Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in educational settings Comfortable working within an elementary caseload Willingness to work onsite only Nebraska interpreter licensure (provisional license accepted for those with an EIPA below 4.0) Commitment to professionalism, reliability, and confidentiality Key responsibilities: Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and activities between staff and students who are deaf or hard of hearing Facilitate communication in individual and group settings, fostering an inclusive classroom environment Collaborate with teachers and other staff to prepare for lessons and clarify interpreting needs Adapt interpreting techniques to meet varying student needs across diverse classroom scenarios Maintain accurate records of services provided as needed The position requires presence on-site at an elementary school Monday through Friday, 7:45am-3:15pm, with the option for a reduced schedule from 11:00am-3:15pm.
