This position helps residents communicate effectively with staff, healthcare providers, family members, and visitors while promoting meaningful access to facility services, activities, appointments, and daily living. Duties Facilitate communication between residents and staff using American Sign Language. Provide interpretation for routine resident interactions, activities, appointments, and meetings. Assist residents with accessing facility services and participating in activities. Protect resident privacy and maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and facility policies. Refer requests requiring specialized or certified medical interpretation to the Social Services Director or Administrator. Maintain professional boundaries, impartiality, and dependable attendance. Participate in required meetings and training. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language and spoken English. Understanding of Deaf culture and accessibility practices. Strong communication, interpersonal, listening, and organizational skills. Ability to interpret information accurately while maintaining professionalism and confidentiality. Ability to work independently and adapt to changing schedules and resident needs. Reliable transportation and dependable attendance.

Preferred qualifications:

Experience providing ASL support in a healthcare, long-term care, educational, or customer service setting. Certification through the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID), National Interpreter Certification (NIC), Certified Deaf Interpreter (CDI), or another recognized ASL credential. Certification is preferred but not required.
