Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact by supporting young learners through sign language interpretation in an educational setting. This contract opportunity offers the chance to work closely with a Pre-K 4 student, ensuring accessible communication and personalized support. Set in a collaborative school environment near Portales, NM, this part-time position averages around 24 hours per week for the 2026-2027 school year.
Qualifications & Experience:
Valid certification as a Sign Language Interpreter. Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting. Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, staff, and families. Compassion, patience, and adaptability to support young learners' varying needs.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as a dedicated 1:1 interpreter for a Pre-K 4 student, facilitating communication between the student, peers, and educators. Ensure that classroom instructions, activities, and social interactions are accessible in real-time. Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt instructional materials as necessary. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times. Monitor the student's progress and contribute to developing a supportive, inclusive environment.
