Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Help facilitate communication and support student success by providing sign language interpreting services in an educational setting near Albany, NY. This full-time, contract position offers 32 hours a week throughout the full school year and focuses on serving an elementary student.
Qualifications:
Certification or licensure as a Sign Language Interpreter (state requirements must be met) Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in a school or youth-centered environment Ability to interpret for a variety of classroom activities and settings Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills Professionalism and a commitment to confidentiality
Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa to facilitate effective communication between the student, peers, and staff Adapt interpretation methods to best serve the academic and social needs of the elementary student Support classroom participation and engagement, ensuring equal access to instructional content Collaborate with teachers, special education personnel, and family members to promote student inclusion Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to school policies Participate in team meetings and professional development as needed This opportunity allows you to make a meaningful impact in a school community, supporting a student's academic journey through expert language access.
