A district near Akron, OH is seeking a contract Sign Language Interpreter for the upcoming 26/27 school year. This opportunity focuses on providing communication support for a medically fragile 4-year-old PreK student who utilizes a ventilator and tracheostomy. The role involves working closely with educational teams to ensure accessibility and support, shaping a positive and inclusive classroom experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL), with a strong understanding of interpreting for young children Prior experience in an educational setting, particularly with preschool-aged students Comfortable working with medically fragile students and collaborating with healthcare professionals Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective interaction with teachers, staff, and families Familiarity with confidentiality and documentation in school environments
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver consistent, high-quality sign language interpretation for a PreK student during instructional activities Translate spoken language and classroom interactions into sign language, facilitating active participation Adapt interpreting strategies to support the student's medical and developmental needs Collaborate with the educational and healthcare team to promote safe and effective communication Advocate for the student's needs and ensure an inclusive environment This position offers 4 days a week, 4 hours per day, providing strong work-life balance and meaningful part-time engagement.
