Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract role supporting a young PreK student as a Sign Language Interpreter for the 26/27 school year. This opportunity allows you to make a genuine difference while collaborating closely with dedicated educational teams. You'll work with a 4-year-old student who is medically fragile and dependent on a vent and trach, providing critical access to learning and connection through your skilled interpreting. The assignment is structured for a manageable schedule—four days a week, four hours each day—beginning the second week of August.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting expertise, preferably in an educational setting Previous experience supporting individuals who are medically fragile is highly valued Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including educators and healthcare professionals Familiarity with assistive communication strategies and adapting interpretation for young children Patience, empathy, and exceptional communication skills Certification or relevant credentials as required by local and state guidelines
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clear, accurate sign language interpretation for a PreK student during classroom instruction and activities Adapt communication methods to support comprehension and engagement Liaise with teaching staff, support personnel, and family members to ensure consistency in communication and care Remain attentive to the student's medical needs alongside designated healthcare providers Maintain confidentiality while documenting observations and progress Discover the joy of making an impact in a student's early learning journey in this specialized setting.
