Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into an impactful role as a Sign Language Interpreter supporting a vibrant early childhood classroom. This contract position is focused on providing specialized communication access for a 4-year-old PreK student who is medically fragile, with a vent and trach, for the duration of the 26/27 school year. Your expertise will be essential in helping the student participate fully in the educational experience. The assignment is located near Kent, OH, beginning the second week of August. What we're seeking: Credentialed Sign Language Interpreter with relevant certification or licensure for educational settings Prior experience working with young children, preferably in a school or PreK environment Comfortable interpreting for students with complex medical needs, including those who are medically fragile Familiarity with augmentative and alternative communication is a plus Compassionate, patient, and adaptable mindset to meet student needs Effective collaboration skills to coordinate with teachers, paraprofessionals, therapists, and nursing staff Responsibilities include: Providing clear, accurate sign language interpretation for a 4-year-old PreK student during instructional and social activities Facilitating consistent communication between the student, educators, and peers Collaborating with the classroom team to ensure optimal learning and inclusion Adhering to all ethical standards and student confidentiality requirements Supporting the student's understanding and participation in classroom routines Assisting with adaptive strategies that accommodate the student's medical needs This assignment offers a consistent schedule: four days a week, four hours per day, allowing you to make a significant difference while maintaining work-life balance.
