Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference in the daily life of a young learner with profound hearing loss as an ASL Interpreter in an educational setting. This contract position runs from August 2026 through May 2027, offering the chance to empower a kindergarten student in a self-contained classroom. You'll have the opportunity to focus on building a strong, supportive relationship with one student while facilitating communication and access to learning throughout a single school building.
Qualifications:
Certification or credentials as a Sign Language Interpreter for educational settings (preferred) Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with strong expressive and receptive skills Experience interpreting for profoundly deaf individuals, particularly children, is highly desired Ability to adapt ASL to the language level, environment, and needs of a kindergarten student Familiarity with school settings and collaboration with teachers and staff Professionalism, discretion, and sensitivity to the emotional and educational needs of young children
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide one-on-one ASL interpretation services for a profoundly deaf kindergarten student throughout the school day Facilitate communication between the student, teachers, peers, and support staff Adapt interpreting style to the child's developmental and educational needs Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all interactions Support the student's participation in classroom activities, social opportunities, and school routines Foster a welcoming, inclusive learning environment This is a 35-hour-per-week contract for the academic year, based in a welcoming school building.
