Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Take your professional skills as a Sign Language Interpreter and support a profoundly deaf kindergarten student in an educational setting. This contract position is scheduled from August 2026 through May 2027, working 35 hours each week at a single school site. You'll partner 1:1 within a self-contained classroom environment, making a real impact on a young learner's daily communication and access to instruction.
What We're Looking For:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in K-12 schools preferred Background in teaching or interpreting for children, especially early childhood Knowledge of educational settings and practices Ability to adapt interpreting style to meet student and teacher needs Professional certification or licensure as required by state Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude Commitment to confidentiality and student advocacy
Primary Responsibilities:
Interpret classroom instruction, activities, and conversations for a profoundly deaf kindergarten student in a self-contained classroom Facilitate clear communication between the student, teachers, and peers Provide support during classwork, group projects, and school events Collaborate with educators and staff on best practices for inclusive education Assist with visual aids and other resources to support comprehension Maintain accurate records and follow school protocols Champion equal access to the curriculum and a positive learning environment Enjoy working a consistent daytime schedule where you can focus your expertise and develop a close working relationship with educators and a single student.
