Job Description

Job Summary :
To develop, implement and deliver a comprehensive outreach program for the D/deaf and hard of hearing community that includes educational programming, socialization opportunities and resources to promote successful independent living.
Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Develop, manage and present D/deaf and hard of hearing educational programming to a broad and diverse range of populations throughout the community, including businesses and corporations, law enforcement, educational venues, civic/community groups, and the general public.
  • Plan, execute and staff educational programming for the Deaf and hard of hearing community a minimum of three times per year.
  • Manage the execution of American Sign Language classes, including ensuring educators are secured and fully qualified, terms and conditions with host sites are clear and appropriate, educators have the tools and resources they need to adequately teach their classes, and plans are in place to cover classes during educator absences as necessary and appropriate.
  • Plan, execute, and staff socialization events for the Deaf and hard of hearing community, including silent dinners, coffee chats, Deaf Teen Club, and educational programming.
Oversee and manage program evaluations, including outcomes and outputs, in collaboration with Director of Member Services, Director of Deaf and Hard of Hearing Services, Director of Development and Chief Executive Officer. Coordinate the instruction of American Sign Language Classes for The Center members as scheduled. Serve as an interpreter in identified classes of The Center making them accessible for people who are D/deaf, if applicable. Lead tours of The Center for people who are D/deaf and may or may not be interested in membership. Identify Program improvement opportunities and work toward constant growth and expansion of Community Resources Program. Work collaboratively with co-workers to achieve overall goals of The Center . Provide American Sign Language interpreting services for staff of The Center, if appropriate. Develop and maintain ongoing relationships with the D/deaf and hard of hearing communities. Communicate programs, services, trends and resources of importance about The Center to the community as necessary and appropriate at informational fairs, health fairs, community presentations, and similar educational opportunities.
Minimum Required Skills/Abilities:
  • Proficiency in American Sign Language
  • Familiarity with Deaf Culture and challenges faced by people who are deaf.
  • Familiarity with resources available for people who are Deaf and/or hard of hearing.
  • Microsoft Office Skills, including Word, Outlook and Excel.
Preferred Skills/Abilities:
  • ASL Bilingual
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent Interpersonal Skills
  • Self-starter
  • Ability to identify and impact program areas needing improvement
Requirements:
  • Ability to traverse 75,000 square foot building.
  • Be capable of maintaining the fast and constant pace of The Center .
  • Be able to assist with serving D/deaf clients as needed and appropriate.
  • Demonstrate stamina to tolerate an active 8-hour day and extended hours if needed.
  • Be able to respond and assist in emergency situations, including fires, falls, spills, etc.
  • Have the ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends when needed. This may include traveling for overnight stays.
  • Have computer skills for charting, tracking outcomes, checking emails, and utilizing the computer as necessary for work purposes.
Pay:
Up to $23.50 per hour
