Job Description

It Takes A Family is seeking a professional Mental Health Interpreter / Translator to provide accurate, confidential, and culturally responsive language services. This role supports communication among clinicians, staff, and clients with limited English proficiency so clients can understand recommendations, participate meaningfully in treatment, and communicate effectively with their care team. After completing training, the position will be remote, and the interpreter will join sessions virtually using their company email. Key Responsibilities Provide accurate, confidential, and culturally sensitive verbal interpretation in an outpatient behavioral health setting. Interpret in real time between clinicians and clients during mental health evaluations, treatment discussions, and other clinical interactions. Translate written materials such as intake forms, consent forms, treatment plans, psychoeducational resources, and other clinical or administrative documents as needed. Help clients understand clinical recommendations, clinic policies, procedures, and next steps in care. Support staff communication with clients regarding scheduling, follow-up care, and treatment coordination when language barriers are present. Communicate mental health terminology and concepts accurately and in a culturally appropriate manner. Protect all confidential and protected health information and comply with HIPAA, ethical, legal, professional, and organizational standards. Maintain neutrality, professionalism, and appropriate boundaries during sensitive clinical discussions and all interpreted interactions. Document interpretation services when required under clinic policy. Participate in staff meetings, training, and quality-improvement activities as requested. Help identify culturally appropriate communication strategies that improve client engagement and understanding. Required Qualifications Fluency in English and Spanish, both spoken and written. Strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills. Knowledge of cultural considerations that may affect communication in mental health settings. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements. Ability to remain professional, accurate, and neutral during sensitive clinical conversations. Preferred Qualifications Knowledge of medical and/or behavioral health terminology. Prior interpretation or translation experience in a healthcare or social-service setting. Join our team today !
