Remote School-Based Sign Language Interpreter - New Mexico 2026-2027 School Year | Virtual Position Are you a skilled Sign Language Interpreter looking for the flexibility of working remotely while making a meaningful impact in students' lives? . Qualifications EIPA score of 3.5 or higher (4.0+ preferred, depending on district requirements) RID certification preferred (NIC or equivalent) Active New Mexico licensure or credentials, if required Minimum of 1-2 years of educational or school-based interpreting experience (virtual experience preferred) Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Strong interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills Comfortable utilizing virtual platforms and technology Key Responsibilities Interpretation Services Provide real-time virtual interpretation for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing in classroom settings Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) and vice versa during instruction and school-related activities Ensure effective communication access across academic subjects and educational environments Student & Classroom Support Facilitate accurate communication between students, teachers, and peers Adapt interpreting methods based on student needs, language proficiency, and educational settings Promote student independence while maintaining professional boundaries Collaboration & Team Participation Work closely with teachers, DHH educators, and related service providers Participate in virtual IEP meetings and multidisciplinary team discussions as needed Communicate effectively with staff regarding accommodations and student support needs Documentation & Compliance Maintain accurate records of services provided, as required by the district Follow all district, state, and federal guidelines for interpreting services Adhere to confidentiality requirements and professional ethical standards Technology & Virtual Platforms Utilize telepractice platforms to deliver high-quality remote interpreting services Ensure proper lighting, video quality, and positioning for effective visual communication Troubleshoot basic technology issues to maintain uninterrupted services Advocacy & Professional Standards Support communication accessibility for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students Follow the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Professional Conduct Maintain professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and educational teams Position Benefits 1099 Independent Contractor Position Competitive Hourly Compensation Flexible Scheduling Fully Remote Work Environment Access to Telepractice Resources and Ongoing Support Interested?
