Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic LAOTIAN In-Person Interpreter to facilitate clear and accurate communication between English-speaking professionals and LAOTIAN clients or community members. This vital role ensures that language barriers do not hinder access to essential services, fostering understanding and trust in diverse settings such as healthcare, social services, and legal environments. The ideal candidate will be passionate about bridging cultural gaps, possess excellent communication skills, and demonstrate a strong commitment to confidentiality and professionalism. Duties Provide real-time interpretation between English and LAOTIAN during in-person meetings, appointments, and service interactions. Accurately translate spoken language while maintaining the speaker's intent, tone, and cultural nuances. Assist clients in understanding complex information related to medical procedures, legal processes, or social services. Support documentation review by translating medical records, legal documents, or social work reports as needed. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information in accordance with HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations and other privacy standards. Collaborate with healthcare providers, social workers, legal professionals, and community organizations to ensure effective communication. Keep detailed records of interpreted sessions when required for documentation or compliance purposes. Stay updated on medical terminology, child protective services protocols, hospital procedures, and social work practices relevant to the role. Skills Multilingual proficiency in English and Khmer (LAOTIAN), with strong interpretation skills in both languages. Demonstrated experience in translation and interpretation within healthcare or social service settings. Knowledge of American Sign Language is a plus but not required; excellent communication skills are essential. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and the importance of confidentiality when handling medical records or personal information. Understanding of medical terminology, hospital procedures, and social work practices to facilitate accurate interpretation. Bilingual ability to effectively communicate complex concepts clearly and compassionately across cultural boundaries. Experience working with child protective services or in hospital environments is highly desirable. Strong documentation review skills to accurately translate reports and official records as needed. Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to remain calm, professional, and empathetic in high-pressure situations.
