The Language Proficiency Screener reports directly to the Director of Multilingual Learners.
The Language Proficiency Screener will be responsible for assessing students both new to the district as well as students who are actively enrolled in the district to determine language proficiency in both English/ native language as appropriate. These assessment results will be used to determine MLL program selection for students as well as to provide information to school-based Teacher Support Teams in making decisions about students in the RtI process. The Language Proficiency Screener is expected to work collaboratively with the other Language Proficiency Screeners to ensure that all potential and current MLL students are assessed for language proficiency using state and district adopted screening measures and when possible and appropriate, Native language assessments measuring proficiency in all domains of language. In addition, the Language Proficiency Screener will administer all other assessments deemed appropriate by RIDE and/or the district related to language, literacy and the other core content areas to support MLL program placement recommendations. In addition to analyzing the assessment results, the Language Proficiency Screener will also, when appropriate, support the Student Information and Registration Center in reviewing and analyzing the educational history and student records of incoming potential MLLs in order to make program recommendations to parents based on the district student placement matrices. In addition, the Language Proficiency Screener will meet with parents to discuss program options and provide parents with the appropriate literature about programming to help ensure that parents make the most informed decision in accordance with the State and federal Regulations Governing the identification and placement of Multilingual Learners.

RIDE Requirements
Any RIDE teaching certificate with Bilingual Endorsement
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS STANDARDS
5 years of successful Bilingual, Dual Language or ESL teaching experience, preferred
Eager to work towards bringing educational equity for our MLLs
A commitment to high expectations for all students, and an unwavering belief that all students can excel with the appropriate supports in place
Believes that parents are equal partners in their children's education regardless of home language/ educational background.
Strong Organizational/ multitasking skills
Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing

An ability to foster a culture of professionalism and continual improvement
Strong competency in the use of Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Drive
Be knowledgeable of Federal and State Education regulations/laws as they pertain to Multilingual Learners
Ability to analyze data to inform program placement
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES AND CURRICULAR LINKAGES
Essential Functions and Performance Responsibilities
Ensure district complies with state and federal regulations pertaining to appropriate MLL identification and placement.
Evaluate students' language proficiency in English and when applicable, in their native language. Based on the results of the proficiency tests and after reviewing the student placement matrices, family and education histories make program recommendations. Consult with and advise parents regarding MLL identification procedure, parental rights and appropriate educational program options.
Be knowledgeable of current MLL programs offered within the district at all grade levels.
Provide direct assistance to school staff as appropriate
Follow through on school and department commitments in a timely manner
Perform as a team member of the Student Placement and Registration Center
Works with the Director of Multilingual Learners to ensure students' appropriate program placement.
