Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting middle school students as a Sign Language Interpreter. Located near Columbia, SC, this full-time position plays a vital role in advancing inclusive education and ensuring clear communication for students who are deaf or hard of hearing. If you're passionate about fostering accessibility and learning environments where all students succeed, your expertise is needed.
Qualifications & Experience:
3.5 EIPA score required (candidates with a lower score who are open to retesting will be considered) Certification or evidence of training as a Sign Language Interpreter Experience working within school settings or with children and adolescents preferred Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Professionalism, reliability, and strong communication skills Ability to adapt communication methods for middle school learners
Key Responsibilities:
Provide clear, accurate sign language interpretation for a middle school student during classroom instruction, activities, and school events Facilitate two-way communication between teachers, staff, and the student Collaborate with educators and support staff to tailor approaches and maximize student engagement Maintain confidentiality and adhere to policies regarding student information and special education requirements Contribute to a positive, supportive learning environment by encouraging student participation and independence
