Job Description
Job Summary We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Sign Language Interpreter to facilitate effective communication between hearing and deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals. The ideal candidate will possess a strong command of American Sign Language (ASL) and demonstrate the ability to interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa. This role is essential in various settings, including educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and community events, ensuring that all parties can communicate clearly and effectively. Duties Interpret spoken language into American Sign Language (ASL) for deaf or hard-of-hearing individuals during meetings, classes, appointments, and events. Translate ASL back into spoken language for hearing individuals to ensure mutual understanding. Maintain confidentiality and professionalism while interpreting sensitive information. Collaborate with educators, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to provide the necessary support for effective communication. Stay updated on best practices in interpreting and changes in linguistics related to sign language. Assist in promoting awareness of deaf culture and the importance of accessibility in communication. Qualifications EIPA (Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment) score of 3.5 or higher preferred Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is required; additional languages are a plus (bilingual or multilingual candidates preferred). Strong interpretative skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly. Knowledge of linguistics as it pertains to sign language interpretation is advantageous. Excellent interpersonal skills with a commitment to fostering inclusive environments. Ability to work in various settings and adapt to different communication styles as needed. Certification from a recognized interpreting organization is preferred but not mandatory. We offer weekly pay via direct deposit!!!!
