Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a meaningful difference supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in beautiful South Carolina for the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. This contract opportunity starts in early August and extends through late May, providing a rewarding pathway for skilled interpreters who are passionate about enhancing communication access in educational environments. Multiple positions are available, serving various schools in the Hilton Head Island, Beaufort, and Bluffton areas.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Hold an Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) score of at least 3.5 Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with fluency in conveying spoken content and interpreting student responses Prior experience interpreting in K-12 school settings is strongly preferred Excellent communication, collaboration, and confidentiality skills Demonstrated commitment to supporting student access to curriculum and classroom interactions
Role Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language to ASL and ASL to spoken English for students, teachers, and staff within a school environment Work closely with educators and special education teams to facilitate classroom participation for students who are deaf or hard of hearing Support students' social and extracurricular engagement through tailored interpreting services Maintain professionalism, adhere to ethical standards, and foster positive working relationships in multiple school locations This is a full-time, contract-based position offering 37.5 hours weekly throughout the academic year.
