Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Put your sign language expertise into action by supporting students and staff across a dynamic school environment in the Columbia, SC area. This full-time contract opportunity is ideal for professionals passionate about making a difference through language access and inclusivity. With both onsite placements and potential for virtual work as the academic year approaches, this position provides flexibility and the chance to engage with a diverse caseload.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Proficiency in American Sign Language and interpreting skills for educational settings Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter Minimum score of 3.5 on the EIPA (with written portion required) Previous experience in schools or with educational interpreting (preferred) Ability to collaborate with educators, students, and other staff Strong communication and problem-solving skills Professional credentials up to date and ready for submission
Primary Responsibilities:
Facilitate clear, accurate communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and school personnel Interpret classroom instruction, school events, and extracurricular activities Collaborate with teachers and support staff to meet each student's individual needs Maintain confidentiality and uphold ethical standards Adapt to a variety of educational settings and age groups as assigned Document assignment details and contribute to IEP meetings as necessary
