Job Description

JOB TITLE
Network Interpreter
REPORTS TO
Director of Diverse Learners
JOB OVERVIEW
The Network Interpreter supports effective communication between schools and multilingual students and families by providing high-quality interpretation and translation services across the network. This position helps ensure equitable access to educational programs, services, meetings, and school-related information while fostering strong relationships between schools, students, and families.
Major Performance Responsibilities and Duties:
Provide accurate oral interpretation services between school staff, students, families, and community members in educational settings and school-related interactions.

Translate written documents, communications, educational materials, and family-facing information as assigned to support multilingual families access to programs and services.

Support communication during meetings and events, including, but not limited to, parent-teacher conferences, enrollment meetings, Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings, Section 504 meetings, disciplinary meetings, family engagement events, Back-to-School Nights, Family Nights, and other school-related activities.

Collaborate with school staff across the Network to ensure language access needs are met in a timely, professional, and culturally responsive manner.

Maintain professionalism, neutrality, accuracy, and confidentiality while interpreting and translating sensitive information.

Build positive relationships and communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders, including students, families, teachers, school leaders, and community members.

Maintain composure and professionalism in difficult or emotionally sensitive situations.

Support Network-wide interpretation and translation needs, including travel between school sites and participation in occasional evening events or meetings.

Maintain records, schedules, logs, or documentation related to interpretation and translation services as required.

Participate in required trainings, professional development, and Network meetings related to interpretation services, language access, and multilingual learner support.

Assist schools in creating welcoming and inclusive environments for multilingual students and families.

Perform other related duties as assigned to support multilingual students, families, and schools.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ability to accurately interpret and translate oral and written communication between English and the target language.

Strong verbal and written communication skills in both languages.

Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders including students, families, staff, and community partners.

Knowledge of cultural responsiveness and effective communication practices with diverse communities.

Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and neutrality in all situations.

Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive and trusting relationships.

Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in uncomfortable or high-stress situations.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Flexibility and ability to manage multiple assignments, schedules, and changing priorities.

Ability to work independently and collaboratively across multiple school sites.

Ability to use technology platforms, communication tools, and basic computer programs related to interpretation and translation services.

Reliable transportation and ability to travel between school sites as needed.

EXPERIENCE and EDUCATIONHigh school diploma or equivalent required.

Associates degree, bachelors degree, or coursework in interpretation, translation, education, languages, or a related field preferred.

Fluency in English and Spanish required.

Demonstrated proficiency in English and Spanish through an approved language proficiency assessment or evaluation process is required.

Previous experience providing interpretation and/or translation services preferred.

Experience working in a school, educational, community, or public service setting preferred.

Experience working with multilingual students and families preferred.
