Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Embark on a rewarding contract opportunity supporting K-12 students as a Sign Language Interpreter for the 2026-2027 school year. This full-time assignment focuses on facilitating clear and effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their peers, teachers, and staff. You'll become an integral part of the educational experience, enabling students to thrive both academically and socially.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) with a proven ability to interpret in an educational setting Prior experience working as a Sign Language Interpreter, ideally within a K-12 environment Understanding of deaf culture and awareness of the needs of students with hearing impairments Certification or licensure relevant for educational interpreting (such as EIPA and/or state credentials) Familiarity with IEP (Individualized Education Program) processes is a plus Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Responsibilities:
Provide sign language interpretation during classroom instruction, assemblies, extracurricular activities, and other school functions Ensure accurate and confidential communication between students, teachers, and staff Collaborate with educators, speech and language specialists, and case managers to support student integration and learning Support student understanding of lesson content and social interactions Adjust interpretation techniques based on individual student needs and context Uphold professional standards and adhere to school policies
