Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Embark on a rewarding onsite contract opportunity serving students as a skilled Sign Language Interpreter in a supportive educational setting near Everson, WA. This role provides a unique chance to make a direct impact throughout the next school year (NSY), facilitating clear communication and access to instruction for students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. As an onsite interpreter, you will collaborate with educators and staff, bridging communication between students, teachers, and peers. Your work ensures all students have the resources needed to achieve academic and personal success in the classroom.
Desired Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with proven interpreting skills. Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter or teaching ASL in a school environment. Hold current state or national interpreter certification (such as EIPA, RID, or BEI) or meet state credentialing requirements for school-based interpreters. Excellent listening, memory, and expressive skills to accurately convey spoken and signed information. Strong interpersonal abilities and cultural competency when working with students, families, and professionals.
Responsibilities:
Accurately interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school communications between staff and students using ASL and voice. Support teachers by translating lesson content and facilitating classroom participation. Model professional interpretation ethics and confidentiality. Foster an inclusive and accessible learning environment in all assigned settings. Adapt communication approaches to meet the diverse needs of students.
