Job Description
Degree in American Sign Language (ASL) Interpreting, certified ASL Interpreter credentials, and 1+ year of experience as an ASL Interpreter in educational settings. Key Qualifications Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) Previous experience providing sign language interpretation in educational settings Ability to interpret effectively for students, teachers, and meetings involving parents or staff High level of professionalism, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity Strong teamwork skills and adaptability in changing classroom environments Certification or licensure as required by state regulations (if applicable) Excellent verbal and written communication abilities Primary Responsibilities Interpret classroom instruction, assignments, and discussions for students who are deaf or hard of hearing Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers using ASL Support students during assemblies, extracurricular activities, and school-related functions Assist with meetings, conferences, and individual education plan (IEP) discussions as needed Clarify or relay information accurately while maintaining the intent and tone of communications Work collaboratively with educators and school staff to foster an inclusive environment Provide feedback on student progress and participate in team meetings to enhance support strategies Experience the rewards of fostering meaningful connections and creating accessible learning opportunities.
