Job Description

Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Step into a rewarding contract opportunity as a Sign Language Interpreter, supporting students in a dynamic educational environment near Federal Way, WA. In this crucial 1:1 role, you will empower students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing, facilitating access to classroom instruction and ensuring effective communication between students, teachers, and peers. Ideal candidates will bring expertise in sign language interpretation within a school setting, using their skills to create an inclusive and supportive learning atmosphere.
Desired Experience & Qualifications:
Hold a 4.0 EIPA or RID certification (required). Prior experience as a Sign Language Interpreter in K-12 schools is highly valued. Strong proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). Ability to adapt language to meet individual student needs. Committed to confidentiality, professionalism, and advocacy for students. Excellent interpersonal and collaboration abilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide direct interpretation services for a single student in academic, extracurricular, and social settings. Facilitate communication between the student, staff, and peers. Adapt interpreting methods and approaches as necessary for different learning and classroom scenarios. Offer feedback and input to educational teams regarding student progress and communication access. Promote self-advocacy and independence for the student. Maintain accurate, timely records in accordance with district and professional standards.
