Qualifications:
Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) with demonstrated interpreting skills Previous experience as a Sign Language Interpreter, preferably in K-12 schools National Interpreter Certification (NIC), EIPA, or relevant state certification (or eligibility) Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with students, teachers, and support staff Confidential, professional, and adaptable to varying classroom needs Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
Responsibilities:
Provide direct interpreting services in classrooms and school events, ensuring clear communication for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students Adapt and adjust interpreting style to fit various classroom activities and student needs Collaborate with teachers and support staff to facilitate the full inclusion of students in general education and extracurricular activities Maintain accurate records of assignments and confidential student information Participate in IEP meetings, staff trainings, or consultations as needed Stay current with best practices, professional development, and ethical guidelines related to educational interpreting This role offers the opportunity to contribute to an inclusive school culture and support academic and social success for all learners.
