Category Schools - Sign Language Interpreter Job Type Contract Make a genuine impact every day by supporting students as a Sign Language Interpreter in a dynamic educational environment near Tacoma, WA. This contract opportunity is ideal for professionals committed to facilitating accessible, inclusive communication in school settings. Work closely with students, teachers, and staff to ensure everyone's voice is heard and understood.
Qualifications & Skills:
Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent). Demonstrated proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL). Experience interpreting in schools or educational settings preferred. Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse teams. Sensitive to the cultural and linguistic needs of deaf or hard-of-hearing students. Commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.
Role Responsibilities:
Interpret spoken language into sign language and vice versa for students, teachers, and other school personnel. Adapt interpretations to suit individual student needs, preferences, and educational goals. Support communication during classroom instruction, school assemblies, meetings, extracurricular activities, and other school events. Collaborate with educators and support staff to facilitate academic success. Provide insight on deaf culture, communication strategies, and accessibility, contributing to a supportive and inclusive school environment.
